A hit-and-run in the City of Poughkeepsie was captured on surveillance video shared with News 12, appearing to show a woman being struck by a vehicle and the driver leaving the scene.

The video, sent by a neighbor on Taylor Avenue, is time-stamped around 10:15 p.m. on April 28.

The woman is seen crossing the residential street when she’s struck. She is later heard on the ground calling out for help as the driver gets out, checks on her, then gets back into the car and drives away.

The recording appears to show the driver backing up before leaving in the direction he came.

The neighbor who shared the video says they, and others nearby, heard her calls for help, ran outside and called police.

Christopher Oliveira, who lives nearby, says he’s not surprised something like this happened.

“I think it is a terrible tragedy that happened here. A lot of people do drive really fast through here,” he said. “It’s too bad they didn’t take accountability for it.”

City of Poughkeepsie police confirmed a recent hit-and-run in the area but have not released additional details, including the condition of the victim or whether a driver has been identified.

Police have not yet responded to News 12’s repeated requests for information.
