The Bronx community paid tribute to members of a family killed in a car accident with a basketball tournament Sunday.
Six members of the Gardiner family were killed last year when their car tried to avert debris on the Bronx River Parkway, jumped the median and crashed into oncoming traffic. The family members were on their way to play in a basketball game.
Surviving members of the Gardiner family said the basketball tournament, held at St. James Park, was the perfect way to memorialize their loved ones and give back to the community.
The Gardiners will give scholarships to Bronx students through a fund set up in honor of the deceased and donate to other Bronx families who have suffered tragedies.
