Haitian families hoping to bring loved ones to the U.S. may soon have an easier time.
Councilman Mathieu Eugene met with families Thursday to discuss the new Haitian Family Reunification Parole Program. The program is designed to speed up the immigration process, especially for those affected by the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
Applicants can enter the U.S. from Haiti and apply for work permits while still awaiting permanent resident status. Those who are waiting for loved ones are excited about the new program.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will implement the program in early 2015.
