Security teams at Hostos Community College are making some changes to improve safety following a shooting last week.
Police say a teen was shot in the leg in front of the college on East 149th Street and Grand Concourse on Friday.
Hostos officials say they are updating their ID system with turnstiles and laser recognition to screen incoming visitors. They are also continuing to train with local police to prevent crime on or near the campus.
Campus safety officials say that they were prepared to handle the incident and that compared to last year, felony assaults in the surrounding precinct dropped by five percent, according to the NYPD.
