With temperatures reaching the high 90s Monday, residents packed the Red Hook pool to cool down.
While some had the day off and could escape the heat, others had to work on the hottest summer day of the year.
"I knew it was going to be hot so I brought my water," Peter Vasquez said.
Although the day was very hot, the Office of Emergency Management said that the cooling centers would only open after two consecutive days of high temperatures or it reaches a temperature of 100 degrees for one day.
