Several families who lost their apartments in the deadly Twin Parks fire three months ago, are searching for permanent housing. The fire claimed the lives of 17 people.
While the city has extended the hotel stays for the victims until May 7, those who are displaced say they are frustrated with the process of not being able to secure a place of their own.
This was the fourth hotel stay extension for displaced families of the fire.
Councilman Oswald Feliz says more affordable housing units on Bergen Avenue, where many families moved to after the fire, will be opening up in the next couple of days.
“We are expected to make a lot of progress in the next week or two. Many families have moved to La Central - it's a brand new affordable housing in the Bronx. We are still waiting for the next part of the building to open so those families can quickly move into those units,” he said.
Feliz says the city will continue to provide as much assistance as possible until every displaced family from the deadly fire finds a permanent place to call home.
