The Liberty Fire Department says part of a Catskills resort that was the inspiration for the movie "Dirty Dancing" had to be knocked down due to a fire.
The department was dispatched to the old Grossingers Hotel property at around 7 p.m. Tuesday.
They say the crew had to cut through a gate in order to access the roadway to get to the fire. They were further hampered due to overgrown and concrete barriers on the roadway which prevented apparatus from being able to quickly turn around.
The fire took several hours to control by multiple departments.
At the request of Town of Liberty Code Enforcement, an excavator was brought into the scene to knock down the structure once the fire was out.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation
