Tenants of the Twin Parks North West apartment building met with elected officials Monday to get some much-needed updates on where they stand in terms of recovery.
News 12 was told that around 80 tenants showed up at M.S. 391 for the meeting, located next door to the apartment building.
Most tenants shared the same concerns, including what happens next.
Councilmember Oswald Feliz says they met with tenants to check in and talk about the next steps, including current and future living options.
"One thing that we reiterated was that every tenant has a hotel stay until at least Feb. 7 but we will make sure that hotel stay is extended until as long as necessary," says Feliz
Local leaders say they also discussed accountability.
"How we can make sure we hold the landlord accountability for self-closing doors, for heat guidelines, for fire alarms and all the things we know existed long before this fire," says Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson.
While most tenants were able to go right in and voice their concerns, others were turned away for not being vaccinated.
"Me not being allowed here because I'm not vaccinated is not right, it's against our rights," says tenant Genie Torres.
Councilmember Feliz assured tenants they'll be holding more meetings in the future with less restrictions.
Gibson says they are in the process of making social services and counseling available through BronxWorks for the tenants.
