A mother and her two children were killed in a crash Saturday afternoon on Ocean Parkway in Gravesend, the NYPD says. Six others were injured, some critically.
The FDNY says the call for pedestrians struck in a multivehicle crash came in just after 1 p.m.
According to police, a car crashed onto another vehicle, which then struck a family that was walking.
A 35-year-old mother and two girls, ages 6 and 8, were killed. A 4-year-old boy was in critical condition as of Saturday night.
News 12 spoke with Jasi Isieoro who says he witnessed the crash.
"I was walking that way, and I saw the car flip over and over. I saw the little kids go flying," Isieoro said.
Officials say firefighters had to extricate the driver of the car that caused the crash.
Police say the other car had five passengers including a driver, a mother, and her three children.
News 12 observed that it was a Toyota with taxi markings.
Police say they were injured but are expected to be OK.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch identified the driver as 32-year-old Miriam Yarimi and said she was driving with a suspended license.
"This was a horrific tragedy, caused by someone who shouldn't have been on the road," Tisch said.
Investigators on Saturday were looking into if whether Yarimi ran a red light. She was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The driver and passengers in the vehicle that was struck were also injured and were in stable condition.
The victims were taken to Maimonides Medical Center, NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County and other facilities.
