Rep. Lee Zeldin made an appearance at a GOP rally in Franklin Square Wednesday, hoping to become New York's next governor.
Hundreds came out to the Plattdeutsch Park to support Zeldin and other Republican candidates
Supporters of the Shirley congressmen say they want to say a change in the Empire State - focusing on key topics like crime and the economy.
"We need to change the management of the state," says Debbie Cassetta, of Franklin Square.
Republican legislators from Nassau County and even other states made an appearance including House Minority WHIP Steven Scalise.
"I got a lot of my colleagues here with me from all around the country," Scalise says "But right now, New York needs Lee Zeldin more than we do right now."
Recent polls have been varied with many showing a tightening race between Zeldin and incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul.
If Zeldin wins, he will be the first GOP governor in New York since George Pataki, who won in 1994.
