Hundreds gathered to say their final goodbyes to a beloved Brooklyn pastor?s wife and grandson Monday.
The Rev. Timothy Wright?s wife, Betty Wright, and his grandson, Daniel Wright, were killed in a Pennsylvania car crash over Fourth of July weekend. The reverend, who is known by followers as the ?Godfather of Gospel,? was also critically injured in the crash, and could not attend the funeral.
Family and friends say Wright?s wife was a wonderful person. ?She died sitting next to her husband in front of her grandson coming back from a gospel concert,? the Rev. Al Sharpton, a family friend, said. ?If you have to go, she went the way she lived ? as an honorable woman.?
The funeral took place at the Washington Temple Church of God in Christ on Bedford Avenue. During the service, the pastor referred to Betty as Tim?s conscience. ?Betty was the prayer of the family,? the pastor said. ?Tim was the pastor and the singer, but Betty was the prayer.?
Wright reportedly had his final surgery last week, and according to a friend, is expected to make a full recovery. The friend also said that Wright does know his wife and grandson were killed, and is taking the news better than friends expected him to.
