Hundreds of worshipers gathered in Brooklyn on Friday to take part in the annual “Way of the Cross” procession across the Brooklyn Bridge.

The celebration began with a packed prayer service at the Basilica of St. James in Downtown Brooklyn.

Bishop Robert Brennan was joined by New York’s newly appointed Archbishop Ronald Hicks.

Together they led the procession out of the church and onto the Brooklyn Bridge, walking alongside hundreds of worshipers from all over Brooklyn and beyond.

“This is my first time, and to do so in the spirit of unity and prayer and togetherness, it’s the perfect setting,” Archbishop Hicks said.

The procession continued toward City Hall, stopping at several churches along the way.
