Hundreds came out to multiple rallies in downtown Brooklyn Sunday to demand change in the wake of rising hate crimes against the Asian community.
Local leaders and community members came out in the name of unity and anti-racism at the Barclays Center and then later at Brooklyn Borough Hall.
Some demonstrators riding on two wheels and some putting one foot in front of the other all made it clear that they're sick of discrimination. They say for too long Black and Asian communities have experienced racism separately.
They united to send the message that enough is enough, especially after six of the eight victims killed in last week's shooting rampage in Atlanta were Asian.
State Sen. John Liu, poets, and activists shared stories of racism at a rally at the Barclays Center Sunday afternoon. Then Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and other local leaders spoke out at Brooklyn Borough Hall to call for an end to racism against all marginalized groups.
Participants said it was all about showing up together and getting their message out.
Organizers said they have more rallies and events planned and are going to keep uniting to demand change.
