Hundreds of friends and family members packed St. Mary?s Church in Manhattan Wednesday to say goodbye to the 7-year-old Bedford-Stuyvesant girl who was found beaten to death.
The body of Nixzmary Brown was found by police last week in her apartment. An autopsy performed on Nixzmary showed that she died from a blow to the head. Her stepfather, Cesar Rodriguez, is accused of binding, beating and molesting her. He is also charged with sex abuse and child endangerment. Nixzmary's mother, Nixzaliz Santiago, is also charged with child endangerment. Both have pleaded not guilty.
Meanwhile, the incident along with three other homicide cases in recent months, has sparked concern about the effectiveness of the city's Administration for Children's Services (ACS). Caseworkers for the ACS had been investigating allegations of abuse at Nixzmary?s home in December.
Nixzmary will be laid to rest at Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn.
