Police are searching for a gunman who shot an off-duty New York City corrections officer early Friday morning.
Police responded to a 911 call about a shooting that happened at around 1:30 a.m. at 1791 Walton Ave. Upon arrival at the scene, police found the 38-year-old victim, Officer Jerome Batchelor, with four gunshot wounds.
Police say the officer was hit twice in an arm and twice in the buttocks. He is recovering at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital.
According to witnesses, Batchelor still had his gun on him and was able to shoot back at the suspect. It remains unknown whether the attacker was hit.
So far, no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting. Investigators are looking into the cause of the incident.
