City officials have closed Coney Island Beach and Manhattan Beach to swimmers Friday in anticipation of dangerous rip currents caused by Hurricane Bill.
Red flags greeted many disappointed beachgoers Friday afternoon in Brooklyn. The Coast Guard made it clear that the warning of dangerous rip currents should be taken seriously by everyone, including boaters.
The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation says the beaches will remain closed to swimmers as long as the storm poses a threat.
