One city resident is sharing his love of art by creating affordable, unique crafts at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Noel Copeland founded Monoco Design 30 years ago as a way to provide New Yorkers with art that is affordable.
“This has been a passion on mine ever since I was a child,” Copeland says. “That’s all I do, make or teach art.”
Copeland has made pieces around the city, including at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the East Broadway station and in the Bronx.
He says a lot of his work has a message and is influenced by social issues like the Black Lives Matter movement.
Copeland says he hopes that his art is making a difference in people’s lives.
“I love to create, use my hands, and I also love to share it with an audience,” he says. “And I’d like to bring joy to people and for me, that’s one way I am sharing and bring something unique to the world.”
