On a hot day like Wednesday, some workers say they are happy to have cool jobs.
The Hailstone Ice Storage Facility is one of the oldest ice distributors in Brooklyn. It's about 20 degrees inside.
On any given morning, the warehouse contains up to 25 pallets of ice, each weighing about 2,400 pounds.
The ice is manufactured at another facility on Long Island before it passes through Crown Heights and then on to dozens of businesses across the borough.
Owner William Lilly, also known as the "Ice King," says he deals almost exclusively with Brooklyn businesses.
Hailstone has been in operation since 1929.
But it's not as cool as it all sounds, Lilly says. Sometimes he works 17-hour shifts, especially during heat waves.
