Business is back to normal for an iconic Red Hook bar ravaged by Superstorm Sandy six years ago, but storm damage has not been the only issue.
Six years ago, Sunny's Bar was affected greatly by Sandy with a large amount of damage done to the building's basement. Today, repairs to the boiler and electrical system have been made.
The owner says the floor is among works still in progress. But on the ground floor, it is business as usual.
Sandy recovery was not the only obstacle the bar faced. Last year the bar nearly closed due to an ownership struggle following the death of the namesake of the establishment.
The community pitched in to raise enough money for the man's widow to buy the bar out and keep it in business.
