Holders of the city's idNYC card get perks associated with many cultural institutions, and now they can link their cards to their health care.
The city announced Thursday that cardholders can use their cards at Coney Island Hospital during the patient-registration process. The plan is to roll out the service to the city's other public hospitals, and the goal is to streamline the process for patients.
The card already provides prescription-drug discounts.
Blandie Medina, of Coney Island, is one of more than 830,000 cardholders, according to a count by the city. She already uses her card to file paperwork for her family's small business. She welcomes the expanded uses for her idNYC card.
Starting this summer, that will also include allowing parents to obtain school records and immunization information with the cards.
