Some Borough Park residents say that illegal parking on one of their local streets has them worried.
According to Councilman David Greenfield and some concerned neighbors, dozens of commercial vehicles illegally park every night along 21st Avenue.
The city's Department of Transportation says commercial vehicles cannot park on city streets unless a sign specifies, saying "commercial vehicles only," or "no standing except trucks."
Councilman Greenfield asked the 66th Precinct to crack down on drivers. He says police handed out about 20 parking tickets this week on the block.
Neighbors say not only do the trucks illegally take up their parking spaces, but they also make walking on the sidewalks unsafe at night.
An NYPD spokesperson says since January of this year, the 66th Precinct has issued more than 1,200 to illegally parked commercial vehicles. They say they will continue to issue the tickets when necessary.
