A woman who lives in the Cypress Hills Houses says she has been left in the dark for more than 24 hours after firefighters had to shut off her electricity.
Carol Sumpter tells News 12 that she's been dealing with a water leak coming from an apartment above hers for the past month. She says on Saturday, the water started to leak into her apartment circuit breaker box, forcing the fire department to shut off her electricity.
"The fire department came and shut me down. They said this is an emergency because this could've been a fire," she says,
Sumpter says NYCHA is scheduled to come by Monday to plaster the wall from the water leak she's been dealing with. But she's still waiting for NYCHA to send workers to restore her power. She says NYCHA told her workers were on their way
" As of yet nobody came, and as you can see I'm in total darkness," she says.
Other residents telling News 12 that the Cypress Hills Houses have a list of problems, especially with the inconsistently of hot water and heat.
Sumpter, who is a cancer survivor, says she just wants her power back to use her medical device that requires electricity.
