Good news for those ready to tie the knot - the city's Marriage Bureau reopens today.
The bureau will start accepting wedding appointments Monday, and will begin issuing marriage licenses on Friday.
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the reopening last Thursday, another step toward the city's full reopening.
"It's the summer of New York City, a lot of people are coming here to experience the amazing things that are going to happen this summer," the mayor says. "Why not get married while you're at it?"
Countless couples were married over Zoom since the pandemic began, made possible by an executive order issued by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in April last year that allowed New Yorkers to obtain a marriage license remotely and allowed clerks to perform ceremonies via video conference.
The mayor says the reopening was possible because of the vaccination effort, with the city approaching 10 million vaccine doses being given out.
