A small, independent grocery store in Brooklyn was facing competition from online retailers, so it decided to get in on the game by making an online shop and offering deliveries.

The Greene Grape in Fort Greene is known for its butcher shop, where shoppers can pick up beef, lamb and pork from local farms. Customers say it offers freshness that can't be found elsewhere.

Now, for the first time in the store's 10-year history, some of its items are available online as well, with a same-day local delivery option.

The store's management built their own website that lets shoppers order wine and about 20 percent of the groceries it currently offers in store,  although more items are being added little by little. The goal is to have everything available within the next year.

Deliveries are available to Fort Greene and Clinton Hill, as well as parts of Downtown Brooklyn, Park Slope and Prospect Heights, according to the store’s website.

"If we can find a way to help get our products to you in a way that's convenient and simple and sort of hassle-free, then that's something we're always trying to do," says general manager Meg Christman.

Shoppers can place their Greene Grape orders from their phones or computers. The store says the online shop won't replace its brick-and-mortar location.
