Anxiety is growing for the Albanian American Open Hand Association food pantry as Thanksgiving is quickly approaching.
It says it currently only has around 300 turkeys for the over 1,000 hungry mouths it has to feed.
The staff says this year, donors don't have enough to give due to the economy.
Supervisor Oscar Gildemeister said the homeless community relies on turkey giveaways in the Bronx and that recipients have been increasing.
The struggle has caused them to decrease food distribution to just one day a week now.
News 12's partners from Investopedia say that right now, it's around $20 for a 16-pound frozen turkey. Thats about 16% cheaper than it was last year, and last year was cheaper than the year before.
"I'm waiting for people with goodwill to help us," says Gildemeister.
