A Rikers Island inmate from Brooklyn died at the jail early Sunday morning – marking the 13th inmate death at the correctional facility this year.

Officials say an officer found Aramis Furse unwell in his cell at around 2 a.m. where he was being held at Otis Bantum Correctional Center.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Queens Hospital where he died just over an hour later.

New York City Correction Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie issued a statement:

"The Department is mourning the tragic death of an individual in our custody. We extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family. The safety of everyone in our care is always our foremost concern, and we will fully investigate this tragedy."

Officials say multiple agencies were notified, including the Department of Investigation and the State Commission of Correction.

His cause of death was still being determined by the medical examiner as of Sunday afternoon.
