Plans to replace Rikers Island with four new detention centers, including one in Brooklyn, have some residents concerned.

Dozens of neighborhood members packed P.S. 133 Thursday night for a community input session about the detention centers. 

The new Brooklyn jail will be at the current Brooklyn Detention Center, but with changes. Officials say there will be an outdoor recreational space, decentralized female housing and comfortable visitation areas for families.

The city's plan to shutter Rikers Island would divide up the average daily population of 5,000 prisoners. Officials say doing so would help cut down violence and make true reform successful.

There will be three additional community meetings. Residents can also submit their comments in writing.
