Dozens of people gathered for an interfaith prayer service on Monday – exactly one week after the mass shooting in Midtown.
Four candles sat in front of the sanctuary of St. Bartholomew’s Church to honor each of the four victims killed in the tragedy.
“I know people who are connected to some of these [victims], and I just felt the need to be here,” said Nancy LeVine, who attended the prayer service.
“I think it’s important, I mean, we all have to show our support,” said Michael Gregory, who also attended. “It can’t be forgotten.”
Four religious denominations organized the prayer service, which was held in the church located across the street from where the mass shooting occurred on Park Avenue.
“We gather tonight to mourn, to pray, to process our anxieties and fears, and to remember,” said Peter Thompson, the vicar and interim rector of St. Bartholomew’s Church.

“The message here at this church is a good antidote to what’s happened because we talk about love here, and that’s what the world needs,” said Tom Mugavero, who was in attendance.
