The State Office of Mental Health is launching an investigation after three young girls went missing from a residential treatment center in the Bronx earlier this week. They've since been found safe.
Police say two 12-year-old girls and an 11-year-old girl went missing from the Henry Ittleson Center in Fieldston around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The center is for emotionally traumatized and disturbed children.
According to police, they were found in New Jersey on Thursday by the Administration of Child Services in Newark and brought to the 50th Precinct in the Bronx. Police say they were transported to the hospital for an evaluation.
The father of one of the girls is concerned about his daughter's safety at the treatment facility, which is run by the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services.
A spokesperson for the State Office of Mental Health says, “When the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services advised us the young girls were missing, we immediately began working with JBFCS and the NY Police Department to secure their safe return. We will be conducting a full investigation to determine exactly how the incident occurred.”
News 12 has reached out to the Henry Ittleson Center multiple times and has not heard back.
