An investigation into the fatal police-involved shooting of an armed suspect in East Flatbush is underway.
Authorities say the incident began as police were patrolling the neighborhood by Church Avenue and East 52nd Street on Sunday morning.
The officers witnessed a dispute between two men in front of the Red Sea Deli and Grill at around 1:15 a.m.
The officers intervened when they saw one of the men point a gun at the other.
The NYPD says the officers warned the man to drop the weapon. He did not comply and tried to run.
The officers eventually caught up and used a stun gun on the suspect. Despite being briefly stunned, he continued running back toward East 52nd Street.
Police say the officers gave the man another warning to drop the gun. He did not comply, and the
officers fired at him.
The NYPD says the officers attempted to perform life-saving care on him. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
The officers involved were also hospitalized for evaluation, according to authorities.
Police say another man entered the hospital with a graze wound in his leg about an hour and a half after the shooting.
"He said he was in the vicinity of this area. So, this will be part of the investigation to see if this male was actually hit at this location,” said NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey.
Authorities say they do not know what led to the initial dispute between the two men.
