City officials held a public information meeting Wednesday at the Brooklyn Public Library to discuss a fatal explosion in a Borough Park building earlier this week.
Investigators say they initially believed the explosion may have resulted from a gas leak, but officials have still not announced a definitive cause.
Francesca Figueroa, who has not been seen since explosion, may have intended to take her own life, according to reports. News 12 has previously reported that investigators initially believed the blast had ignited due to a gas leak from a stove in her apartment.
The New York Daily News has reported that Figueroa may have used chemicals from the hair salon that she owned to set the blast.
Councilman Brad Lander says that investigators are preserving all of the debris removed from the site to help in the probe.
"There is not yet a conclusive cause," he says.
One of the two bodies recovered from the scene remains unidentified, but there is speculation that it belongs to Figueroa. The other person killed in the blast has been identified as 64-year-old Ligia Puello.
More than a dozen people suffered injuries, and nearby residents and businesses have been displaced.
