The city announced $50 million in new capital investments to improving 10 parks throughout the city. It's through the Community Parks Initiative which they say reconstructs parks in neighborhoods that have been historically underserved.

City leaders referenced a study by researchers at the City University of New York that demonstrates residents who live near a Community Parks Initiative experience increased satisfaction and lower levels of stress.

New York City Parks says community members will have a say in the upgrades they want to see.

Nakel Hill, of Brownsville, says having nice parks has deep implications for the community.

“Because it’s very violent out here in Brownsville. So, hopefully they could make it better and hopefully constructing and making new parks will bring the community together," said Hill.

New York City Parks says the projects are about to enter the design phase and community conversations will start in the near future.

The following parks will be getting upgrades:

Mott Playground (Concourse)

Fountain of Youth Playground (Mott Haven / Longwood)

Morris Mesa Playground (Mount Hope)

Brooklyn

Van Dyke Playground (Brownsville)

Roebling Playground (South Williamsburg)

Elizabeth Stroud Playground (Bedford–Stuyvesant)
