The New York Islanders helped to start off the new school year for returning students with all the necessities.
The team's Children's Foundation hosted a backpack giveaway this weekend outside the Isles' practice facility in East Meadow.
The foundation handed out 550 backpacks that were filled with folders, notebooks, crayons, scissors and other school supplies.
"It's a good way to start the school year for these kids, make sure they have all the tools that they need to get into the classroom, and start their learning process for the season," said Anna Rina, senior director of Community Relations for the New York Islanders.
This was the second year of the Islanders' backpack giveaway.
