Five Yonkers Fire Department members have been promoted to new positions in their careers.
Two new captains and three new lieutenants were sworn into their new positions Monday morning by Mayor Mike Spano at Yonkers City Hall.
Each of the three lieutenants will lead a group of four firefighters. Both new captains will be in charge of at least 17 firefighters.

"The community on this job is really second to none. Nobody does it by themselves. It's a team effort. I couldn't be here without the people who have come before me and are pushing me from behind as well," says Lt. Christopher Higgins.
The new lieutenants and captains also received encouraging words from Fire Commissioner Anthony Pagano, Mayor Spano, and City Council Rep Tasha Diaz.
