The New York Jets scored big with time running out as they helped a Park Slope food pantry before Thanksgiving.
The Jets delivered 100 Thanksgiving turkeys and fixings to the Park Slope Christian Help (CHIPS) pantry Tuesday. Program administrators say the help can?t come soon enough. With the holiday season approaching, the need is increasing at food banks around Brooklyn and the city. But at the same time, city leaders say the supply of food is decreasing.
Some people only think about donating food around the holidays. However, those involved with food banks say donations are needed throughout the year.
The Jets donation at CHIPS is part of a citywide effort by the Food Bank of New York. Officials hope to collect more than 10,000 turkeys for the needy by the year?s end.
