Some Jewish teens are facing hate crime charges for allegedly assaulting a Pakistani man outside a Midwood Dunkin? Donuts.
The Brooklyn District Attorney?s office says five teens punched 24-year-old Shahid Amber after a fight broke out at 1081 Coney Island Ave. Sunday. Amber, whose nose was broken, says he will likely have to undergo reconstructive surgery.
Shalomi Bitton, 16, 17-year-old Youssi Friedman and 16-year-old Benjamin Wasserman face charges of assault, menacing, aggravated harassment and gang assault as a hate crime. The teens are also charged with criminal possession of a weapon. The suspects are due back in court November 3. Officials say the two other teens in the violent attack were released to their parents.
Pakistani and Jewish community leaders say they are coming together to discuss what went wrong and how to prevent future attacks.
