A dispute between hit singer Kelly Clarkson and Brooklyn shop Art of Play is drawing national attention after both sides publicly accused the other of misrepresenting what happened during a weekend shopping trip.
Clarkson first posted on X that she felt judged while visiting the store and claimed an employee suggested finding something more affordable after she inquired about a $15,000 item.
She compared the experience to Julia Roberts' character in "Pretty Woman."
The store responded on Instagram, saying Clarkson had asked about "Molly," a one-of-a-kind singing bird automaton that is permanently attached to the wall and not for sale.
Clarkson fired back, calling the store owner a "liar" and insisting she had been told the bird was for sale for $15,000 before an employee offered to show her something comparable.
On Monday, the store issued another statement, saying there had been a misunderstanding.
According to the shop, a nearly identical bird owned by Seattle artist Bliss Kolb could be purchased for $15,000, while another singing bird available in the store cost about $2,000.
The business says it has reached out to Clarkson directly in hopes of resolving the dispute.
