For the past 18 months, a family in Kensington has been living a real-life horror story due to an unexpected and unwelcome invasion of raccoons.
“You're just going to sleep, and you hear 'thump, thump, thump, thump' coming across your ceiling,” Alice recalled. This unsettling sound became a reality for Alice and her family, who struggled to manage the raccoon infestation in their home. The situation escalated as the animals left behind a mess of droppings and urine, chewed through wires - and ultimately invaded their living space.
Alice described a morning when raccoons burst through an HVAC panel in her master bedroom.
“We had raccoons hanging upside down in our master bedroom,” she said.
The family soon learned that an entire raccoon family had made a nest above their heads. Exterminators spent weeks attempting to trap the raccoons, discovering that they were entering through a series of openings in an abandoned house located two doors down.
“We realized the house two doors down is abandoned. There were holes everywhere, so we trapped, I believe it was over eight raccoons here,” said an exterminator.
Raccoons are known for sneaking into homes through small openings, and Alice believes the owners of the nearby construction site are to blame for the infestation.
“We have checked the neighbor in between multiple times. The exterminators have checked, our handyman has checked—there are no holes in either of our houses. They're coming in from the holes that we visibly see in your house,” she stated.
In an effort to resolve the issue, Alice reached out to Majestic Holdings, the owners of the construction site, but their attorney was unavailable for comment. Now, she faces up to $100,000 in damages, desperately seeking assistance from her insurance company and the building owners for a problem she did not create.
As Alice and her family continue to cope with this ongoing nightmare, they remain hopeful for a resolution.
