A group of workers in Kensington is demanding lawmakers pass a bill guaranteeing paid sick time for everyone in New York City.
Employees at the Golden Farm Supermarket say their coworker, 34-year-old Felix Trinidad, died because he delayed medical care for stomach pain that turned out to be cancer. They say the father of two worked 72 hours each week while undergoing chemotherapy.
The measure already has the support of at least 35 City Council members, which is enough to override a veto from Mayor Michael Bloomberg who opposes it. City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has not brought it up for a vote, saying small businesses cannot afford paid sick days in this economy.
