Young Brooklyn residents got a big surprise Thursday from a former Yankees player at a Bed-Stuy pool.
Swimmers at Kosciuszko Pool ate a free, healthy lunch with former centerfielder Mickey "Mick The Quick" Rivers. Even though they are too young to remember the 1970s baseball legend, they were just as excited to meet a real life New York Yankee.
Rivers says the opportunity was equally rewarding for him. Parents say they appreciate Rivers taking time out of his schedule to support their kids.
The baseball star plans to keep raising awareness about summer meal programs, which save families a lot of money. The free lunches take place Monday through Friday all over the city.
