A Lacey Township woman was sentenced to ten years in state prison in connection with the death of her two-year-old son in 2022, according to Ocean County prosecutors.
Police say they found Natalie Sabie’s toddler unresponsive at her home in Lacey Township. The child was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River where he died. Tests later found a significant amount of fentanyl in the child’s system.
An investigation determined that Sabie was at home with the child and responsible for his care when he was found unresponsive, prosecutors say.
Sabie was taken into custody and charged in connection with the death of her son on Oct. 14, 2022. She was processed and has been lodged in the Ocean County Jail. Prosecutors say Sabie will be required to serve at least 85% of her prison sentence before she may be considered for parole eligibility due to the terms of the No Early Release Act.
Additionally, Sabie was sentenced to five years NJSP in connection with her previously entered guilty plea to endangering the welfare of a child. The sentences will run consecutively. Sabie pled guilty to both charges on July 12.
