A Lakewood woman was charged with drowning her two children – ages 1 and 3 years old.
Naomi Elkins, 27 is being held in the Ocean County Jail. She appeared before Judge Scott Basen through a video link hooked up with the Ocean County Jail.

Basen read Elkins her rights and the charges she’s facing, which include murder and possession of a weapon. Then the hearing concluded.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office says Elkins was arrested on Tuesday after police responded to the family home along Shenandoah Drive in Lakewood. Police were initially told the children were in cardiac arrest.

First responders attempted to resuscitate the children but they did not survive.

Witnesses tell News 12 that they soon after saw Elkins in handcuffs.

The prosecutor has revealed that the 1-year-old was stabbed and that both children died by drowning.

A motive for the killings was not yet revealed.

Elkins will appear in court on Monday for a detention hearing.
