A longtime day care and pre-K in Red Hook is at risk of shutting down because its landlord sold the building.
The Strong Place for Hope Day Care is a city-funded nonprofit that has served low-income and diverse families since 1970.
"We're not losing our funding, but funding is useless if we don't have a building to conduct our programming," says Lorraine Pennisi.
The city leases the building from Jacbel Realty, which in December notified the day care that a private school is buying the building.
A representative of Jacbel tells News 12 that the company has no comment on the sale.
According to Jacbel's notice to the day care, the city has the option of matching the private school's bid to buy the building itself and keep the Strong Place for Hope in business. The deadline for that is March 25.
The city says it's exploring its options.
