New Yorkers will descend onto Brooklyn Heights on Saturday night to experience a special evening of music, witnessing the United States’ largest gamelan – a traditional Indonesian percussion ensemble.

A gamelan typically consists of gongs, bells, metallophones, drums and more. The performance, which will take place at St. Ann and the Holy Trinity Church and feature the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra, will showcase the music of a Javanese gamelan.

“It’s a group of instruments…. Which are musical instruments that are indigenous to here, Java,” said Phil Nuzzo, art director of the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra. “There's an orchestra of minimalism to it-- its just a totally different musical pallet. It's music but painted in a different type of paint, and a different kind of brush.”

Nuzzo says they are expecting 500 guests at Saturday night’s 7 p.m. show.
