A beloved member of the Sacred Heart University community was remembered Sunday for the positive impact she had on the school.
Karin Douglas, who recently died at the age of 90, left a big part of her estate to SHU, where she earned a degree in legal administration in 1984.
Her friend Pat Walker said the Trumbull resident was a licensed pilot who volunteered her services to the Civil Air Patrol, an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force in Bridgeport.
"She had such an impact upon us because she was such an energetic humble person -- a very humble person," Walker said. "She created two scholarships and none of them have her name on them, so she was more interested in the impact that she was going to have than on any self-aggrandizement."
Douglas was a two-time cancer survivor who became an activist and advocate for others who are diagnosed with the illness.
