County Executive George Latimer says the Memorial Field project in Mount Vernon is close to being done.

He says the turf field will be done by the end of this week, but the bathroom fixtures still need to be done. The skate park and scoreboard have been finished.

Latimer says the three-week concrete stamping project for the entrance starts this week and the tennis court construction will start in the next two to three weeks.

“It's important as a statement that when government decides that something is important and we work toward that end, we can deliver that end product," he says.

The field has been sitting unused in Mount Vernon for about 12 years.
