Restaurants across the borough are preparing for a new law banning foam containers.

Starting July 1, manufacturers and stores cannot sell single-use foam items like cups, plates, trays or containers.

The Department of Sanitation says the foam is not recyclable and it's not good for the environment.

Some business owners who spoke with News 12 say now that they won't be able to use the foam, they are using alternatives like aluminum, which they say is more expensive. There is a lawsuit over the ban filed by the Restaurant Action Alliance.

Businesses have a six-month grace period before they will be fined for the foam.
