Assistant Assembly speaker Felix Ortiz says the city should consider a plan to handle extra congestion and pollution before filling the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal in Sunset Park with businesses.
The terminal is still in development and the city is looking for tenants to fill the space. It is expected to be a hub for maritime and industrial companies.
Ortiz says the Sunset Park neighborhood is already prone to major traffic during the week. He says once the project is complete, an influx of trucks will virtually shut down surrounding streets.
Ortiz wrote a letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio in January regarding his concerns. Although he has not yet heard back from the mayor's office, he says they are looking into it.
