Lawmakers are calling on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to add civil rights leader Medgar Evers’ name to two subway stations.
Assembly member Diana Richardson and state Sen. Zellnor Myrie are reaching out to Gov. Cuomo saying that it’s important that the city shows its respect to Evers.
Medgar Evers is known for his contributions to ending desegregation and expanding voting rights.
The lawmakers want the addition to be in honor of Medgar Evers College and the civil rights leader it's named after.
The state Assembly secured $125,000 of capital funds towards the plan, which would change the subway signs and maps. The legislation has already cleared both the state Assembly and state Senate.
