Lawmakers are looking to give the Brooklyn Bridge a makeover. Brooklyn council members are calling on designers and engineers to come up with ideas for a wider pedestrian and bike path without taking up any car lanes. Lawmakers are hoping to fund the project at city, state and federal levels. They say the bridge's lanes haven't been updated in 20 years, and an improvement is well overdue. Department of Transportation (DOT) statistics show an average of 4,100 pedestrians and nearly 3,000 cyclists cross the bridge daily.
